Description
Transmission Tower II, oil on canvas by William Steiger. A steel tower reduced to line and flat plane against open sky — the American industrial landscape stripped back until what is left out matters more than what is left in.
Steiger's signature oil on canvas paintings of the American landscape and its familiar icons such as ferris wheels, grain elevators and trains, are minimalist meditations on line and negative space. He begins with the familiar: icons of the American landscape including grain elevators, tramways, trains, machines, roller coasters and Ferris wheels. The recognizable subject matter is then transformed, often more by what is omitted than by what is left in. Imagery becomes abstract and reductive yet the seemingly simpler compositions ultimately communicate more through their sparing directness. Limitless space implies endless narrative wherein forms rise from, and meld into, the landscape.

William Steiger studied art at the University of California, Santa Cruz and was a 1989 graduate of the MFA program at Yale University. He is the recipient of numerous grants, fellowships and awards and his work is included in countless private, public and corporate collections, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art. Beginning in 2004, he added printmaker to his resume, working with Pace Prints and the Dieu Donné Papermill. Over 35 solo shows have been mounted internationally, and in 2011 Hudson Hills Press published a monograph of his work, featuring more than 200 images and essays by 13 contributing writers. Steiger currently lives and works in New York City.

Small items — packed in-house and shipped UPS Ground or 2nd Day Air, usually out within a week. Most run somewhere around $25–$60 depending on size and destination.
Furniture, large art and lighting — delivered white-glove through our freight partners, quoted live at checkout. As a guide, expect roughly $350–$900 to California and the West Coast, and $700–$1,500 nationwide. Delivery usually takes 2–5 weeks outside California.

Condition, Authenticity & Returns
Everything we sell is vintage or antique, and no two pieces are the same. That means honest wear: patina, small marks, the evidence of a long life. We photograph each piece thoroughly and note anything significant in the description. If something is not clear from the photos, ask us before you buy and we will send more.
Our promise. All sales are final — but if a piece arrives damaged, or differs materially from how we described it, tell us within 48 hours of delivery and we will make it right.
