About the artist
An expressive painter of coastal and landscape views, DeWitt Parshall was born in Buffalo, New York, and graduated in 1885 from Hobart College where he irritated faculty members because of his ability to do caricatures. He also studied at DeVeaux school in Niagara Falls, the Royal Academy at Dresden, and from 1886-1882, had further study at the Julian and Cormon academies in Paris. He set up a studio in New York City, but his interest was western landscape, and he became a member of the Society of Painters of the West. From 1910 to 1917, he did a series of paintings of the Grand Canyon for which he remains best known. In 1917, he moved for the remainder of his life to Santa Barbara, California, where he specialized in coastal scenes and landscapes.

Condition, Authenticity & Returns
Everything we sell is vintage or antique, and no two pieces are the same. That means honest wear: patina, small marks, the evidence of a long life. We photograph each piece thoroughly and note anything significant in the description. If something is not clear from the photos, ask us before you buy and we will send more.
Our promise. All sales are final — but if a piece arrives damaged, or differs materially from how we described it, tell us within 48 hours of delivery and we will make it right.
Questions about condition, provenance or authenticity? Email info@thebluedoorsb.com or call 805-364-5144. We would far rather answer ten questions than have you buy something that is not right for you.
